Larry Hacker,
Owner & President of Kansas Paving
Kansas Paving, a premier asphalt and concrete construction company based in Wichita, Kansas, has been delivering high-quality paving and infrastructure solutions since 1990. “This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you don’t go with Bangert, you shouldn’t do it.”

The Challenge
Kansas Paving’s transition to Sage Intacct Construction was supposed to streamline their financial processes and reporting, but instead, it became a two-year nightmare. with their original Sage Intacct vendor.
Key Challenges:
Severe Data Issues
Numbers weren’t balancing, making financial reporting unreliable.
Bonding Delays
Inaccurate financials created obstacles for securing project bonding.
Lack of Industry-Specific Support
Working with consultants who lacked construction expertise led to system misconfigurations, financial discrepancies, and inefficiencies.
Accounting Team Overload
Staff was overworked and losing confidence in the system.
Frustrated and out of options, Larry began searching for a solution. That’s when he found Bangert, Inc.
The Solution
Kansas Paving needed a partner who understood construction accounting—not just the software. Within 24 hours of reaching out to Bangert, Larry was connected with Lisa Hutt, a Sage Intacct expert, who quickly diagnosed and confirmed the issues with their setup.
The Result
A Complete Turnaround with Sage Intacct
From Chaos to a Fully Optimized System
For two years, Kansas Paving struggled with their implementation. Their financials were unreliable, their accounting team was overwhelmed, and they considered abandoning Sage Intacct altogether. But once Bangert stepped in, everything changed. “My accounting was about as bad as it could get. I even looked into getting rid of Sage Intacct completely,” said Hacker.
Bangert stepped in and turned things around, ensuring their system was:
✔ Properly configured for construction—ensuring compliance with industry-specific accounting needs.
✔ Delivering immediate visibility into financials through dashboards and accurate reporting.
✔ Reducing workload for the accounting team, allowing them to focus on high-value tasks.
✔ Providing confidence in future growth with a system that scales alongside Kansas Paving.

“If you don’t go with Bangert, you shouldn’t do it.”

A Deployment Process That Just Works
Bangert had a clear plan from the start. The structured deployment process, combined with Bangert’s extensive video resources, gave Larry’s team the confidence they needed to succeed.
“I was so impressed when I started looking and saw video after video of different things about Sage Intacct,” said Hacker. “When you deal with other vendors, you ask them questions, and they’ll say, ‘Hang on, that’s not working right,’ then spend time figuring out why. Usually, it’s a setup problem they created themselves. You guys already had it figured out.”
Bangert’s deployment model allowed Kansas Paving to learn as they implemented, combining on-demand resources with hands-on support:
“When you do your deployment and we look at the videos, it’s already proven how it works. That made all the difference.”
Full Visibility into Business Operations with Multiple Entities
Kansas Paving originally struggled with separate databases for different divisions, making reporting cumbersome and inefficient. Now, with Sage Intacct configured correctly, they have seamless top-level visibility across all business units.
“Now, I can see all our companies in one place, break down revenue, and analyze financials in a way we couldn’t before,” said Hacker.
Initially, he was hesitant about the top-level structure, but now he sees its value: “I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the top-level approach at first, but I like it now. I don’t like change—I like to perfect what we have and stick with it—but this was worth it.”
An Accounting Team That’s No Longer Stressed
Before Bangert, Kansas Paving’s accounting team was buried under manual data entry, duplicate work, and unreliable numbers. Now, their operations are streamlined and stress-free—and the difference is noticeable.
“They like to take off a little bit more now because they’re not so stressed. When things are good, they’re good,” said Hacker.
One of the biggest improvements was eliminating duplicate data entry. Previously, Kansas Paving had separate databases for their Ready Mix and Paving entities, requiring vendors to be entered twice.
“Now, you can go to the top level, put the vendor in one time, and it applies across all companies. That saves us a lot of time and reduces errors,” Hacker explained.
A Long-Term Solution That Will Last
Kansas Paving originally switched to Sage Intacct because their legacy software was being phased out. After two years of frustration, Hacker nearly gave up—until Bangert stepped in and made it work.
“It really was a good experience, and I’m not sorry that I did it,” said Hacker.
Now, Sage Intacct is part of Kansas Paving’s long-term future. When asked how long he thinks the company will continue using it, Hacker didn’t hesitate:
“Probably until—I mean, I’ll be gone and done before they get off of it.”
A Sage Intacct Success Story Done Right
Kansas Paving’s Sage Intacct journey started as a disaster, but Bangert’s expertise turned it into a success story. For construction companies considering Sage Intacct, choosing the right implementation partner makes all the difference, as Larry Hacker said, “This was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. If you don’t go with Bangert, you shouldn’t do it.”
